New DXDA Entities within Greece |
From 1 January 2011, in accordance with the Kallikratis plan, the administrative system of Greece was drastically overhauled. The former system of 13 regions, 54 prefectures and 1033 municipalities and communities was replaced by 7 decentralized administrations, 13 regions, 74 peripheral units and 325 municipalities. The Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain, as an autonomous self-governing entity, is exempt from these reforms. The 54 former prefectures are now defunct, and have been approximately replaced by the new 74 peripheral units. The DXDA list have been updated accordingly. Extra 20 new entities have been added to the list from 3778 to 3797. We are also working on the updates for the new EU Areas within Greece. You will be notified as soon as we get correct Greek names and co-ordinates from George, SV8GXC. The new EU Areas within Greece will be the newly created 325 municipalities. |
